Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Slk.me privacy, link shortening, and secure notes.
Slk.me is a free, privacy first URL shortener and secure notes platform. It allows users to shrink long, messy web links into clean, manageable URLs, and share highly sensitive information using encrypted, self destructing messages.
When you create a secure note on Slk.me, your message is locked behind AES-256 encryption. We generate a unique, one time use link for you to share. The exact moment the recipient opens the link and reads the message, the data is permanently and physically erased from our database. If anyone tries to click the link again, it will lead to a dead end.
No. Unlike mainstream URL shorteners that inject tracking pixels and harvest user data for advertisers, Slk.me operates on a strict zero tracking policy. We do not use third party tracking cookies, and we never sell your browsing habits. We only log IP addresses temporarily for basic security and rate limiting.
Yes. Sending passwords via email or chat apps is dangerous because those platforms archive your messages forever. By using Slk.me's secure notes feature, your sensitive data is encrypted and immediately destroyed after viewing, ensuring your secrets cannot be discovered in a future data leak.
No account is required to get started. Guests can create up to 2 secure links or encrypted notes per day completely free. However, creating a free account unlocks unlimited link generation, basic click analytics, and a dashboard to manage or edit your active URLs.
You have full control over your data's lifespan. When creating a link or note, you can set it to expire in 1 hour, 24 hours, 30 days, or 1 year. For maximum security, notes can be set to "Burn After Reading," which destroys them instantly upon the first view.
